The holidays are a great time for your tastebuds, but not so great for your teeth! With all the decadent food, sweets & drinks, it’s extra important to stay on top of your dental hygiene and avoid cavities. Read on for four ways to keep your mouth in top shape during the holidays!

Keep up your daily dental routine

The holiday season is often a very hectic time. Even if your daily routine gets flipped upside down for those few weeks in December, make sure you remain consistent. Brush your teeth twice a day, and don’t forget to floss. The last thing you want is little bits of that Christmas turkey stuck between your teeth. If you are travelling, don’t forget to pack your toothbrush, toothpaste & floss.

Go easy on the sweets

A heavy amount of sugar and candy during the holidays will likely have an impact on the health of your teeth. Reduce your dessert consumption as much as possible. Once the sweets hit the table, try and be more selective about the foods you choose. Your teeth will thank you!

Reduce your soda & alcohol consumption

Soda and alcohol can affect your teeth in many ways. When over-consumed, they can contribute to tooth decay and tooth erosion, as they soften your tooth enamel and make your teeth more sensitive. Wherever possible, substitute or alternate these drinks with water. It’s healthier, and it will help rinse your mouth.

Use fluoride mouthwash

Complement your dental routine with a mouthwash that contains fluoride. Fluoride helps to strengthen your tooth enamel. After consuming all the sugary goodness of the holiday season, especially if this is a daily recurrence, fluoride mouthwash will be an essential tooth-saver.
